Imagine Europe, right after World War II. Fuel and steel are in short supply, but people still need to get around. The solution: microcars, diminutive but charming mini-vehicles just large enough to hold one or two passengers. But put aside the practicalities—these microcars also happened to be exquisitely designed and produced in a crazy diversity of shapes and bright colors. With their unique looks, they are today the fastest-growing segment of the collector-car industry. The Microcars calendar showcases a dozen distinctive vehicles—meticulously restored to their original charm—that were once part of the collection at the celebrated Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum in Madison, Georgia. A delightfully toy-like 1956 Avolette Record Deluxe. A 1955 Inter 175A Berline, whose tapered tail and nose give it the look of a small airplane. And a jelly-bean-shaped Fuji Cabin, one of the few three-wheeled microcars built in Japan. It’s a tribute to optimism, ingenuity, and the power of smart design.
